“A former university educator and attorney has announced her bid to represent north-central Douglas County in the Nebraska Legislature.

Wendy DeBoer, 43, is running for the District 10 seat being vacated by state Sen. Bob Krist, who is ineligible for re-election in 2018 because of term limits. The district includes Bennington and parts of Omaha and unincorporated Douglas County.

A Democrat, DeBoer is the first announced candidate for that seat in the officially nonpartisan Legislature.

DeBoer grew up in the Maple Village area and returned to Omaha about a year ago while continuing doctoral work with Syracuse University in New York.

She’s a newcomer to politics, but has worked in Kansas City as an attorney and served in religious and academic leadership roles for much of her life.”
