“Barbara Weitz, who has a building named after her at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, has announced that she will run next year for the NU Board of Regents.

Weitz, 69, of Omaha, will run for the District 8 seat currently held by attorney Hal Daub, who was Omaha’s mayor a little more than 15 years ago.

The eight-member Board of Regents currently is all male. The regents oversee campuses in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney and Curtis.

Weitz’s press release said she would like to “add a woman’s voice to the all-male board’s decision-making process and provide a platform for other voices missing from the conversation.””
