Today I announce my candidacy for National Committeeman for the Democratic Party of the State of Nebraska.
I run to represent the entire Nebraska Democratic Party. From all corners of the state East, West, North and South. For the last 8 years I have been Chair of Chairs of the Nebraska Democratic Party. I also have been County Chair of Cherry County since 2006. In 2012 I proudly represented Nebraska at the National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina has one of the National Delegates.
I have plenty of practical political experience, from being a founder of the Hastings College Democrats in 1982. I worked on Bob Kerrey’s 1992 Presidential campaign in the South Dakota Primary. During the 21st century I was a leader in both the Kerrey for Senate campaign in 2012 and the Domina for Senate campaign in 2014. Both Dave Domina and Bob Kerrey have endorsed me in my pursuit of being Nebraska’s new National Committeeman. Before being heavily involved in politics I was a teacher and coach throughout Nebraska in Stuart, Chester, Harrison and Pawnee City, Nebraska. With that and many other experiences I have knowledge of all parts of Nebraska.
I got my BA in Social Science Education at Hastings College and did my Graduate Work in History at Wayne State College. I have been married to Angie for the last 27 years and have two sons Artie a freshman at Hastings College and Evan a freshman at Valentine High School. Since 2011 I have been the Executive Director for the Minnechaduza Foundation in Valentine. The Foundations goal is to help folks without resources or money to get good health care. My main job is fund raising. I have a lot of experience in fund raising. One of the most important duties of any National Committeeman is to fund raise for their State Party. I am determined to make a significant impact on fund raising for “OUR” Nebraska Democratic party.
I believe that the Nebraska Democratic Party should move toward more innovative fund raising. We have had some fine success in the traditional efforts and those should be continued. But we need to start thinking “outside the box” for new fund raising events. When I was part of the Kerrey campaign in 2012, I helped to arrange a country western music concert with Lucas Hoge an award winning singer who came back home to Nebraska to help Senator Kerrey in his race. We could do like Bold Nebraska and have a Rock and Roll Concert. The NDP could have its own golf tournament. You can’t be afraid of change or taking a chance. Nor of asking for help from folks who have expertise in other areas besides the political world.
With more funds raised by me has the National Committeeman, the party will be stronger and better able to help and serve the many Democrats in our State. We can work on developing local candidates throughout the entire state. We need to build our base and register thousands of more people to the Democratic Party. Educate folks on our values. Our ideas our superior to the republicans. We need to get that message out. I want to be part of that effort. On the National focus, I will not take a back seat to any one in getting the word of Nebraska Democrats known on the national scene. Nebraska Democrats will not be ignored. I have many contacts that I have made throughout my years has Chair of Chairs. I will continue to build on that has your National Committee Man. I worked very hard on the Nebraska Democratic Party caucus. I had extensive contacts with folks from both the Clinton and Sanders campaigns. I pushed both camps hard to bring their candidates and supporters to Nebraska. I pushed that they open offices in Nebraska. Making the Nebraska Democratic Party a super success will be a top priority for me.
So I ask for your VOTE and SUPPORT at the State Convention in Kearney June 17-19. Let’s work together to make our Party and State the kind of success we want it to be.
Thank You!! Bud Pettigrew
