Campaign Finance Reform

Resolution

On Campaign Finance Reform:

WHEREAS, the need for real campaign finance reform is not a progressive issue       nor a conservative issue but an American issue; and,

WHEREAS, United States is the longest standing democracy in the world, founded on

“of the people, by the people, and for the people,” rather than the current

practice: “of the few, by the corporations, for the rich;” and,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Douglas County Democratic Party work

to overturn the Supreme Court 1976 Buckley v. Valeo campaign financing

decision and the subsequent and disastrous 2010 Citizens United decision; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Douglas County Democratic Party work to

restore limits be as to how much individuals and corporations can donate to

campaigns; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Douglas County Democratic Party work on

legislation that requires disclosure of the beneficiaries of campaign donations;

and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that all of these actions be prelude to a move toward

full public financing of elections.
