Omaha Public School Board Member Marque Snow seeks to represent District 3 on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.
“I have committed my entire life to providing services for at-risk youth and I believe I can further that commitment on the Douglas County Board by fighting for increased mental health services and for youth in the juvenile justice system. The most vulnerable members of our community have been underrepresented and underprotected for too long.
“I am proud of my accomplishments on the OPS board including increasing the GPA requirement for extracurricular activities, revising the OPS Code of Conduct to increase de-escalation trainings in schools, reopening Gifford Park Elementary School, and upgrading the history curriculum in our schools to include further education on African American history and Omaha specific history.”
Marque was elected to the OPS Board to represent SubDistrict 2 in the special election of 2013 and then ran for re-election unopposed in 2014. In addition to serving on the OPS Board, Snow was one of the very first mentors through the Reach and Rise mentoring program and coaches soccer at the YMCA. Snow is the Executive Director of the South Omaha YMCA.
In addition to increasing services for juveniles, Marque will make mental health a priority: “We should explore expanding human services in the Douglas County jail and bringing Mental Health Courts to Douglas County. On the OPS Board, my colleagues and I are working on bringing more mental health services to the schools because of the need for the services in the entire community. I am running because the Douglas County Board of Commissioners can do more for our most vulnerable.”
