“Diane Battiato will seek re-election in 2018 as Douglas County assessor/register of deeds.
Battiato had been expected to run again. A Democrat, she served 12 years as register of deeds before winning election in 2014 to lead the newly merged Office of Assessor and Register of Deeds.
In formally declaring her bid, Battiato touted improvements in Register of Deeds technology for real estate industry professionals and the general public. That included making thousands more records available and easier to search by the public, and implementing a full-service, web-based electronic records management system.
“We’ve also had some equally notable achievements in the assessor’s side of the office: for example, improved preliminary meetings for property owners with their appraiser, a new focus on expanding the homestead exemption program for seniors, and a total restructuring of our sales market areas,” Battiato said.”
