Cavanaugh seeks reelection to Commissioner Dist. 2

Jim Cavanaugh to seek re-election on Douglas County Board of Commissioners

County Commissioner Jim Cavanaugh announced today that he will seek re-election for the Douglas County Board of Commissioners in 2022.

In making his announcement, Cavanaugh said, “It has been an honor to serve and work for the people of Douglas County. Working together we have achieved some great things.”

Cavanaugh – a lifelong Omaha resident – cited several accomplishments which were achieved without any tax increases:

§  Using careful budgeting along with voter-approved financing, he helped lead a public safety bond project that resulted in a new state-of-the-art 911 center, a new drive-through car registration and tax payment facility, as well as environmentally responsible energy upgrades on Douglas County’s west campus at 156th and Maple streets, and updated alarm systems for all fire department stations in Douglas County.

§  Leading the COVID-19 relief efforts, he helped set up food, rent and utilities assistance for individuals and families hit by the pandemic.

§  By giving grants to small businesses and nonprofits who were hard hit by COVID-19, he was able to help them recover more quickly and put people back to work.

In looking to the future, Cavanaugh proposed that federal recovery funds be used to address the community’s unmet needs for mental health services, affordable child-care for working families, and long-term assisted living for the elderly and disabled. Again, this can be accomplished with no tax increases, he said.

“With proven, smart and responsible budget and finance ideas, I am committed to giving the people of Douglas County the best public services at the best price,” Cavanaugh said. “During the COVID pandemic, our community has worked together to make it better for our families and each other.

“I am working hard to help our community build a brighter future – for all of us. That’s why I am running for re-election as your county commissioner. That’s why I am asking for your help, support and vote in 2022. Working together we will make it better!”
