On June 17th, 18th & 19th, Nebraska Democrats will gather in Kearney to set the path of the State Party for the next 2 years. It is always a lot of fun to be with other Democrats.
I am asking for your vote for 1st Associate Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party. I am a third generation Nebraskan. Maternal Great Grandparents immigrated from Ireland to South Omaha to work in the meat packing plants. Paternal Great Grandparents were Kinkaiders in Cherry County. When I was 5, I walked door to door in Omaha for my Dad’s campaign for State Board of Education. I did not know then that I was embarking on a lifelong commitment to the grassroots.
Working on campaigns taught me that Democrats need a year around grassroots effort in our communities. We need welcoming local parties that engage both long time activists and new ones. We need a party focused on building an infrastructure that campaigns can plug into.
As the Caucus Director for Douglas County, I recruited hundreds of volunteers, ran multiple trainings and ensured that over 125,000 Nebraska Democrats had the chance to cast his or her ballot for our Presidential nominee. I have travelled across the state meeting with Nebraska Democrats and supporting our candidates.
At the DNC, I fought to re-establish Howard Dean’s 50 State Strategy. I told Debbie Wasserman Schultz that we deserve more Presidential debates. I helped develop a national online training for activists across the country. That program, T3, has trained over 3000 activists nationwide. I am proud to say that Nebraska had the second highest number of participants for the Spring training.
We can build a Democratic Party that embraces Democratic values. We can elect Democrats locally, statewide and nationally. It is up to us to build an inclusive grassroots party structure through engagement and training.
Please vote Maureen Monahan for 1st Associate Chair.
